Breakfast In Kelawang (13th Jan 2018)

Route Hunters believes that Malaysia has some of the best driving roads in the world. What better way to demonstrate this idea than to actually drive on these roads that are located in our very own back yard. Every month, we organize a drive on roads that we have spent the last 2 and a half years documenting to truly appreciate our nations hidden treasures.

For the month of January, we kicked off with the nearest driving paradise to the Klang Valley, the Kuala Kelawang road at 6.30am on the 13th of January.

The Cars

Although there were suppose to be 12 cars participating in this leg, rain and temperature was a major cause of concern to most. There were 3 cars that took part in the drive, a Suzuki Swift Sport, an R56 Mini Works GP and a 208 GTi.

Overall we considered the drive to be a success, since we were able to enjoy the drive without having to nanny a huge convoy. The roads, despite being wet, was very entertaining. The scenery was epic thanks to the mist shrouded ambiance. This is what Route Hunters is all about. Great roads, epic scenery, amazing food, awesome friends. Not a bad way to start the year......

Road conditions

The event took place on one of the wettest and coldest week in Malaysian history. The night long rainfall and the sub-20 degree temperature were not only conducive to extending the sleeping hours, but also to bad for grip. Was not a major concern as we hit Jalan Sg Tekali, the tyres warmed up nicely before reaching the highest point (320M). The route was shrouded with thick lovely mists. It was hypnotically beautiful but also cause of concern as it could cause us to loose concentration of the road!

The drive itself was brilliant. All 3 were hot hatches with drivers who love these sort of roads. We maintained a good pace despite the slippery conditions. All 3 cars kept a safe distance and this road was a complete joy to drive in.
The hot bowl of curry laksa that waited for us a the end of the drive was a much needed relief from the cold. After the much deserved breakfast break, we headed the same way back for a last minute photo shoot by the side of the lake.

Start Point: Shell Batu 9, Jalan Cheras
End Point: Balai Polis Kampung Baru Titi

We start off from the Shell fuel station located along Jalan Cheras, and we trek towards Pekan Batu 14, Hulu Langat. We kick off at 6.30am just to make sure we arrive at the start before the cyclists occupy the roads, just to make sure both parties can enjoy the roads safely
